Creating a Completely Tor-ified Network With BSD and an RPI3
With FreeBSD and HardenedBSD supporting the Raspberry Pi 3, interesting projects can be brought to light. Many people around the world cannot speak their minds freely on the public Internet. Work is underway to give voice to people who cannot currently be heard. Starting with a Raspberry Pi 3 (RPI3), this presentation shows how to set up a network such that all nodes within it will communicate transparently through Tor.
By utilizing a Raspberry Pi 3 (RPI3), HardenedBSD, clang/lld 4.0.0, and Tor, we can create a fully anonymized network to give people a voice. This presentation will instruct attendees how to create a fully Tor-ified network along with showing a live demo. Three preconfigured RPI3 devices will be given away at the end of the presentation.
Anonymous and secure communication is a basic human right. By providing a simple, plug-n-play solution, we can give bestow upon anyone that basic human right. The world's most free countries were born from the need to communicate one's thoughts.
In this presentation, we will walk through the steps for setting up a live Tor-ified network. In addition, we'll have an open-ended discussion about using technical means to defeat censorship around the world. Each country censors in a different way and Tor may simply not be enough. At the end of this, we'll come away with a more solid understanding of what the world needs and how to provide technical solutions for those needs.
