FreeBSD's Influences -- porting Hyper-V to Illumos
Last year I was fortunate enough to attend the BSD Developer summit, where I learned about FreeBSD support in Azure. It was perfect timing since my company, Delphix, was looking at what it would take to support our product in the Microsoft cloud. Although we don’t use FreeBSD, it was the FreeBSD community that greatly influenced the way we would move our project forward. This talk will describe how Delphix has worked with the FreeBSD developers to develop Hyper-V support on an Illumos-based operating system.
This talk will focus on:
- the approach we took to port the hyperv freebsd drivers to illumos kernel
- the challenges we faced during the port
- how we plan to debug in the cloud
- staying up-to-date with changes in FreeBSD
- how this project has influenced me personally
